World Osteoporosis Day 2017

Today, the 20th October 2017, is World Osteoporosis Day.

What is osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis is a fragile bone condition which causes bones to become weak, so that they break easily – even as a result of a minor fall, a bump, a sneeze, or a sudden movement. Fractures caused by osteoporosis can be life-threatening and a major cause of pain and long-term disability.

It is a growing global problem that affects one in three women and one in five men over the age of 50.

If left undiagnosed and untreated, osteoporosis can take a heavy toll on someone’s future. There are specific risk factors that can increase the chances of having osteoporosis including first fractures.

World Osteoporosis Day

This year, the campaign calls on people of all ages to ‘Love Your Bones: Protect Your Future’! Through early prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis, millions of men and women all over the world can reduce their risk of painful, debilitating and life-threatening fractures.

Cath Kidston with the National Osteoporosis Society

Cath Kidston Talk for National Osteoporosis SocietyWe attended an evening with Cath Kidston, MBE and ambassador of the National Osteoporosis Society last night at The Law Society, London. Proud to be stocked by the National Osteoporosis Society, we celebrated the achievements and milestones of the charity this year. Chief Executive, Claire Severgnini updated everyone on the progress made and plans for the future.

It was great too to hear from Cath Kidston. Humble Cath lives with the day to day challenges of the condition. She shared her experiences of how she transformed an initial idea of fun, vintage products into a successful business and iconic British brand. We also heard her insights into leading a healthy life and how 'balance is vital'.
